Top Ten Tuesday: Books We Liked More Than Expected
1) Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare - Okay, I've loved the ID series since the first word but I never, and I mean never, expected to be flipped so up, down, diagonally by this book.
2) Don't Let Me Go by J.H. Trumble - I feel like this book is on almost all of my TTT posts. I can't help it; it's amazeballs. I read it almost 2 years ago and I'm still gushing about it, so that must tell you something. You can read my (very old) review for elaboration on my love for it.
3) Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen - Going into this book (and even still) I wasn't very informed on the tale of Robin Hood, but boy did I fall in love. Once again, I read this over a year ago and I have not lost my love for it. My review (another old one).
4) The Fault in Our Stars by John Green - I'd heard amazing things about this book, but I'd never experienced John Green before and all the hype made me want to dislike it. I could have never anticipated the profound love of this book I acquired. My review.
5) Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley - Oh my. I remember I was on a really bad reading drought. I just couldn't find anything I loved, but Cath Crowley did more than give me a book to love, she allowed me to fall in love with reading all over again. I didn't even like contemp novels at that time (funny, because I ADORE contemp now), but this book...The outpouring of my love.
6) Hushed by Kelley York - This is different than the typical YA book, that is for darn tootin'! My review.
7) The Bane by Keary Taylor - This one is actually a pretty recent read, as in I read it last week. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by a very interesting plot.
8) Zero by Tom Leveen - This book was so authentic. From awkward first-meetings to stupid mistakes and hulking insecurities. The review.
9) Virtuosity by Jessica Martinez - Tons of people said this book was AHMAZING but it didn't sound like...super fantabulosa. Well it was. It was emotional and had GREAT characters. In which I demand people read it.
10) The Truth About You and Me by Amanda Grace - This is another recent read, and therefore it is still an open wound. It sounded interesting enough, but I never ever expected to feel so connected to the characters and their story. ALL THE FEELZ are still with me even after about a week or two after reading it.
1) The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - The blurb does it no justice and I didn't think I'd enjoy it at all but so many people recommended it and now I'm OBSESSED!
2) Star-Crossed by Rachael Wing - It's in second person, short and sweet, sooooo good!
3) Blood Red Road by Moira Young - I was put off by how it was written at first and was worried I wouldn't enjoy it but I reeeeeeally did!
4) Forsaken by Jana Oliver - I dislike third person but adore this series!
5) Shadows by Paula Weston - It just didn't appeal to me but I can honestly say I enjoyed it.
6) Hollowland by Amanda Hocking - The blurb is LAME! It should NOT exist!!!!!!! The book (and sequel) is amazing!! A must read!
These are all I can think of for now...

Practically Peeing
I know, what a weird post title! But there's a lot of times when I'm excited for a book I say I'm peeing my pants for it. So "Practically Peeing" is a feature sort of like Waiting on Wednesday or On My Wishlist or Books To Pine For where I showcase books that I realllllllly want to read. They might already be released, they might be a year away, they might be coming out next month! Either way, I can guarantee, I really want to read them.

She's writing about him. he's writing about her. And everybody is reading between the lines..
For Erin Blackwell, majoring in creative writing at the New York City college of her dreams is more than a chance to fulfill her ambitions--it's her ticket away from the tragic memories that shadow her family's racehorse farm in Kentucky. But when she refuses to major in business and take over the farm herself someday, her grandmother gives Erin's college tuition and promised inheritance to their maddeningly handsome stable boy, Hunter Allen. Now Erin has to win an internship and work late nights at a coffee shop to make her own dreams a reality. She should despise Hunter . . . so why does he sneak into her thoughts as the hero of her latest writing assignment?
Then, on the day she's sharing that assignment with her class, Hunter walks in. He's joining her class. And after he reads about himself in her story, her private fantasies about him must be painfully clear. She only hopes to persuade him not to reveal her secret to everyone else. But Hunter devises his own creative revenge, writing sexy stories that drive the whole class wild with curiosity and fill Erin's heart with longing. Now she's not just imagining what might have been. She's writing a whole new ending for her romance with Hunter. . . . except this story could come true.
I loved Jennifer Echols's book Such a Rush. It was steamy, and I loved the characters. I have no doubt this book will hold the same awesome elements. Plus, fun creative writing stuff thrown in there!

After spending an amazing day and night together in Paris, Just One Year is Willem's story, picking up where Just One Day ended. His story of their year of quiet longing and near misses is a perfect counterpoint to Allyson's own as Willem undergoes a transformative journey, questioning his path, finding love, and ultimately, redefining himself.
Words can't even. Gayle Forman is AMAZEBALLZ and I adoredlovedworship Just One Day. I can't wait to get to know smexy Willem more!

Robert Westfall's life is falling apart-everywhere but in math class. That's the one place where problems always have a solution. But in the world beyond high school, his father is terminally ill, his mother is squabbling with his interfering aunts, his boyfriend is unsupportive, and the career path that's been planned for him feels less appealing by the day.J.H. Trumble is spectacular beyond explanation. Her debut novel, Don't Let Me Go was legit the best. Her writing is poignant, and her characters have so much depth.
Robert's math teacher, Andrew McNelis, watches his best student floundering, concerned but wary of crossing the line between professional and personal. Gradually, Andrew becomes Robert's friend, then his confidante. As the year progresses, their relationship-in school and out of it-deepens and changes. And as hard as he tries to resist, Andrew knows that he and Robert are edging into territory that holds incalculable risks for both of them.

Former piano prodigy Nastya Kashnikov wants two things: to get through high school without anyone learning about her past and to make the boy who took everything from her—her identity, her spirit, her will to live—pay.I have heard the most magnificent things about this book. I've got a weird thing for the books that completely obliterate my heart, and I've heard that this is that kind of book, so of course I must experience ALL THE FEELZ.
Josh Bennett’s story is no secret: every person he loves has been taken from his life until, at seventeen years old, there is no one left. Now all he wants is be left alone and people allow it because when your name is synonymous with death, everyone tends to give you your space.
Everyone except Nastya, the mysterious new girl at school who starts showing up and won’t go away until she’s insinuated herself into every aspect of his life. But the more he gets to know her, the more of an enigma she becomes. As their relationship intensifies and the unanswered questions begin to pile up, he starts to wonder if he will ever learn the secrets she’s been hiding—or if he even wants to.
The Sea of Tranquility is a rich, intense, and brilliantly imagined story about a lonely boy, an emotionally fragile girl, and the miracle of second chances.

Quote Impressions
Quote Impressions is a feature where I highlight different quotes from different books that resonated with me and made a huge impression. The kind of quotes that made me pause in my reading and go, "Wow!" Now, without further ado...the quotes:
“I'd rather die on my own terms than live on theirs. I'd rather die loving Alex than live without him.” - Delirium by Lauren Oliver
“Our nights were filled with passion and long soft gazes and sweet words. We weren't behaving ourselves, and we didn't for one moment feel guilty about that.” - Don't Let Me Go by J.H. Trumble
“The only thing better than imagining Dimitri carrying me in his arms was imagining him shirtless while carrying me in his arms.” - Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
“I never once cheated on you. I never even looked at another girl when we were together.” - We'll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han
I just started with quotes from some of my favorite books. Have you read any of these books? If you haven't, do these quotes make these books seem like something you would enjoy?

In My Mailbox (16)
I know, I know. I have been such an AWFUL blogger latetely. Bt if it makes you feel any better, I haven't really done much reading or writing lately either. Just lots of crap going down in my life, and I've got bigger priorities than blogging, as much as I sometimes wish otherwise. So, without further ado, I present to you the fabulous books I have received the past 2 weeks. Clicking on the title will take you to the Goodreads page.
Holy balls, I am beyond siked for this. I have been wanting to read this series for forever and ever and ever. I feel like everyone and their friggin dog has read this series and I am so happy to have the first two and a half bound into one gorgeous volume!
OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGGGGG. This book is amazeballs. I'm so in love with it. I borrowed the ARC from Brent Taylor at Naughty Book Kitties, and I fell so hard for it that I bought the final copy, and OMG I CANNOT STOP STROKING IT AND STARING AT IT AND LOVING IT. You can read my review for this fabulous work of art here.
Once again, everyone has read this book. And adored it. And I haven't. I borrowed this from my English teacher, which is super awesomesauce because I have never had an English teacher who loves YA. She loaned this to me because it is her favorite book. I've already started it and it's really good.
YAYAYAYAYAYAY! This book looks absolutely fabulous and I have wanted to read it since the very second I heard about it.

Don't Let Me Go by J.H. Trumble (ARC REVIEW)
Don't Let Me Go by J.H. Trumble
Genre: YA Contemporary
Publication date: Dec. 27, 2011
Publisher: Kensington Publishing Corporation
Format: ARC
Pages: 337
Source: Borrowed from Brent @ The Naughty Book Kitties
Some people spend their whole lives looking for the right partner. Nate Schaper found his in high school. In the eight months since their cautious flirting became a real, honest, tell-the-parents relationship, Nate and Adam have been inseparable. Even when local kids take their homophobia to brutal levels, Nate is undaunted. He and Adam are rock solid. Two parts of a whole. Yin and yang.
But when Adam graduates and takes an Off-Broadway job in New York—at Nate’s insistence—that certainty begins to flicker. Nate starts a blog to vent his frustrations and becomes the center of a school controversy, drawing ire and support in equal amounts. But it is the attention of a new boy who is looking for more than guidance that forces him to confront who and what he really wants.
J.H. Trumble’s debut, DON’T LET ME GO, is a witty, beautifully written novel that is both a sweet story of love and long-distance relationships, and a timely discourse about bullying, bigotry, and hate in high schools.

I'm not sure what I expected from Don't Let Me Go, but I didn't get it - I got more. TEN TIMES MORE. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh!!!!! This book is, like, three billion different kinds of perfect. It goes where few YA books dare to go, and man.....it goes there SO GOOD. I seriously haven't stopped thinking about it since I started it! It was stunning and heart-breaking and so painfully real.
I feel this book will definitely bring many people out of their comfort zones. It touches on subjects that people generally shy away from: homosexuality, parental abuse, prejudice, extreme bigotry and bullying, and loooooots of sex. But I think anyone who has enough balls to pick this book up and read it will fall head over heels for it like I have. I read the first paragraph and I was GONE. I was done for. Totally hooked. I kept making my dad mad because I would stay up too late on school nights to read it. I kept making my teachers mad because I wouldn't stop reading while they were trying to teach. I kept making my friends mad because I put in my headphones and ignored them while I read it. I loved it that much.
The plot was great, obviously, but what really made the book for me was the characters and the emotional punch that they packed.
There is Nate, and he has some serious issues. His dad pretty much disowned him when he came out of the closet (but he was a total douche long before that); his boyfriend (AND SOUL MATE!!!!) moved to New York to take an acting job that sucked up all of his time and involved other hot gay guys that were frequently naked or shirtless and totally crushing on him; Nate is still kind of recovering from some intense emotional damage and trauma; and everyday he goes to school he has to face passionate protesters and homophobes. He gets jealous easily, has a tendency to hurt himself, and he doesn't believe in himself at all. But he's so sweet and strong and determined, and I loved him so much. Even when I hated him.
Then there was Adam. We don't see a lot of present-Adam, because he is off in New York pretty much throughout the entire novel, but we do see past-Adam who is crazy and funny and sweet and one hundred percent dedicated to Nate.
Danial was awesome. Just totally and completely awesome. He was hilarious and supportive (and a MAJOR tease!!!). First, he was there for Nate. He stuck around and protected him throughout everything. Even when it meant that he had to withstand the criticism and spite. Even when boundaries were crossed. Even when people thought he was gay as well, even though he was "straight as an arrow." Then, when he felt that Nate no longer needed him, he was there for Luke. AND BOY DO I HAVE THINGS TO SAY ABOUT LUKE. I didn't mind him at first. Sure, he was slightly creepy and a tad pathetic, but it was so easy to feel bad for him. He'd never had a boyfriend before and he was freshly embracing his sexual orientation. But then. Oh oh oh oh, thennnnnn. Not only does he begin to border on pathetic (because HELLO everyone could tell that Nate and Adam were going to be together forevzzzz!!!!!) but he does something completely unforgivable. I'm not heartless, so I still feel HORRIBLE for certain events that involved him, but I hate him. I really do.
All of the more minor characters were great as well. There were Adam's parents with their unwavering support and kindness, Nate grandmother who decides she needs to learn more about what gay people do, Juliet who was sort of a walking contradiction to herself (one minute she was throwing herself at Nate, and the next she was talking about how perfect Adam and Nate were for each other and how they were obviously meant for each other), and Mr. Wolf who dealt with a lot of shit from Nate and still supported him.
The writing was absolutely stunning. It has a way of sucking you in and twisting your emotions. I loved it. I couldn't get enough. There were scenes that should have made me uncomfortable, but were just amazing and perfect and great. Nothing is sugar-coated. It is all stated blatantly. The progress of the novel is natural and smooth and that's what adds to the relentless realness of this book.
I will be reading more of Trumble's work.
playlist is in the back of the book and J.H. Trumble even wrote which scene that song described.
This book was just fabulous. Easily glided it's way into my favorite books of 2011 (maybe EVER). I loved it so much. SO FREAKING MUCH. And I need more of it. I will be buying the final copy, and I will be reading it over and over and over again. Reader discretion is advised. Like I said, nothing is sugar-coated, and though it is a YA novel, and though I am only 15 and I FREAKING ADORED IT, would definitely say this is more fitting for older readers. But seriously, swipe away any hesitation you have of reading this book and just crack it open. I promise you that you will not regret it, and I believe that with every fiber of my being.
